Planned Parenthood’s response to Super Bowl ad debacle

February 3, 2010

Update on Carrie’s post last week on Super Bowl ad madness:  Planned Parenthood just released a video response ahead of the much-anticipated Focus on the Family ad featuring football player Tim Tebow.  I think it’s a great response — Mrs. Tebow had a choice, and so should we.

    I love PP’s response.

But actually, I’m not sure if Pam had a choice. Abortion is illegal in the Philippines. If she had tried to obtain an illegal abortion, as thousands of women do each year in that country – she may have been hurt or died as a result – as thousands of women are each year as they seek unsafe means to end unwanted pregnancies.

Agreed. I would have had no clue that all of this went down in the Philippines unless I paid attention to the details. This might have been an opportunity to raise more awareness of the restrictive situation for reproductive health in the Philippines — whose reproductive health bill, by the way, is sadly languishing — but it was obviously simpler to omit that from the headlines.
